We all want to get the best travel deals when we travel.
Travelling doesn’t have to be expensive, there are some great deals out there. You just need to know how to find them.
There actually is a lot of choice out there, almost too much, so let me break it down for you.
Be flexible. If you limit yourself to a specific date and destination, you are stuck with a certain price. So be flexible. Go a day earlier or later, or check out a different airport. This might save you a lot of money.
Book early. If you plan ahead you can grab yourself a real bargain. When flights are just released they are the cheapest. Of course you wait for a great last minute deal, but they aren’t what they used to be anymore.
Travel outside of high season (when the kids are in school). This could easily save you up to 50% on flights and hotels. Another good reason to go then is that it will be less crowded, empty beaches and no lines at the attractions.
Do a stop over on your flight. Compare prices by adding a stop over in your itinerary. Plus you get to visit an other country!
Use booking engines. Websites like booking.com have great deals on hotels. Or why not rent a private apartment on Airbnb.
Hostelworld has a great overview of all the hostels. A new favourite of mine is Agoda, with great discount hotels worldwide.
For flights a trusted site is Skyscanner, the best thing is that you can type in your departure airport and as the destination ‘anywhere’ and it will give the best the deals out there.
Compare. After finding your flight and hotel, go to the airlines or hotel website and check the price on there. They might just have a special offer available for the dates you want to travel that is not available through the other sites.
Sign up for news letters. Airlines, hotels and cruise lines all have sales. By signing up to their newsletters you get the best deals delivered right into your inbox. Other newsletters that are great to sign up for are Groupon and Travelzoo. They do great travel deals.
Choose a country where you will get the best exchange rates. Exchange rates go up and down. Pick up a paper and read the financial section. It will give you some information of a currency that will give the best exchange rate at the moment. Whether this is euro’s, dollors or yen, compare the exchange rate on XE. It will also show you what the currency has done in the past couple of month and whether or not you are getting a good deal at the moment.
